About
ASWAT:
Founded in 2003, Aswat is a group made up of Arab queer (lesbians, inter-sex,
transsexual, transgender, questioning and bisexual) women. Together they
unearth the common grounds between them to provide an opportunity for all Arab
queer women to empower themselves, provide mutual support and influence social
norms. Aswat members raise their voices to support Arab queer women
on personal, social, political levels, thus creating dialogue and change within
their Arab Palestinian society towards queer politics. The group works to
change public opinion about the concepts of sexuality, sexual orientation,
gender and homosexuality and their sociopolitical rights as a minority group
with a different sexual orientation. In addition to the provision of moral
support, they also conduct monthly meetings, offer support groups, provide a support
and consultation line, implement empowerment sessions and awareness raising
workshops, provide informational publications in Arabic and English, as well as
an effective website and discussion forums. For more information on Aswat visit
